ATELIER: Characters for Sketch with Kirsten Rasmussen

Whether for solo work, or for a troupe show, the audience often walks away quoting that one favourite character. How do you create someone like that? Work with the master of characters Kirsten Rasmussen to create new and specific characters for sketch. Using a combination of on your feet and on your computer methods to learn how to write the individual voices of your hilarious new characters that the audience won’t be able to forget!

Kirsten Rasmussen is an improviser/actress living in Toronto, currently working on her second Comedy Revue on the Mainstage at Second City Toronto. She recently won the award for Best Female Improviser in Canada, from the Canadian Comedy Awards 2015.  She began performing comedy with Rapid Fire Theatre in Edmonton where she also received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting. In 2010 Kirsten co-founded and co-directed Montreal Improv Theatre. In Montreal Kirsten was also known for her solo shows Blink Blink Blink which won Best English Play at the Montreal Fringe Festival and went on to a successful run at The Centaur Theatre’s Wildside Festival. Her solo show Tough was also nominated for a few awards including Best Comedy  from Just For Laughs.  In Toronto before joining the Mainstage at Second City, Kirsten was a teacher and director and performer with the Bad Dog Theatre, as well as a teacher for Second City Training Centre. She could also be found performing regularly with her troupe K$M with Matt Folliott at Catch23. Kirsten has toured all over Canada, to Chicago, New York, Berlin, Australia and the Caribbean with improv/sketch and her solo shows.
