Théâtre Sainte-Catherine strives to implement various practices and policies to create an environment where respect, safety, kindness, and conviviality are emphasized. We aim to develop a space where everyone feels comfortable to frequent and express themselves without fear of judgment.
Territorial Acknowledgement
Théâtre Sainte-Catherine acknowledges that we are located on stolen and unceded lands traditionally belonging to Indigenous peoples and currently on Kanien’kehá:ka territory. Specifically, we operate on the island of “Montreal,” known as Tio’tia:ke, which has always been a place of meetings, gatherings, and exchanges for many Indigenous nations. Even today, these lands are shared by diverse Indigenous populations as well as people of various origins.
Policy on Respect and Harassment Prevention
Théâtre Sainte-Catherine aims to be an inclusive, welcoming, and friendly environment where the atmosphere encourages mutual respect for everyone. We want everyone to feel welcome, which is why we are committed to providing a safer space for those frequenting our premises. Thus, behaviors that undermine the dignity, safety, comfort, or self-esteem of individuals, and/or establish an intimidating, hostile, or offensive atmosphere will not be tolerated within the Theatre and its activities.
To ensure that everyone can fully enjoy workshops, events, and performances, we place great importance on the safety and well-being of our artists, teachers, technicians, audience members, and bar-café staff. Therefore, Théâtre Sainte-Catherine (TSC) and Nouveau International have established a policy aimed at raising awareness, preventing, and intervening in cases of harassment and violence of all kinds. In addition to this policy, training and resources will be made available to the community to learn more about these different issues and develop better reflexes in problematic situations. Finally, a code of conduct will be applied to all to ensure consistency between our discourse and our actions.
